Granular Synthesis In Ableton

Since Granular Synthesis involves manipulating grains of sound, it can theoretically be accomplished by using any synthesis technique, as long as the grain duration remain under 50 milliseconds. That said, the majority of mainstream granular synthesis are based on the processing of fragments of audio data, so the best way to get started is with a sample based instrument.

In this article, we’ll be looking at a creative way to use Ableton’s Sampler along with a few of Live’s integrated MIDI and Audio Effects, many of which are available at the entry level of Ableton, with Ableton Intro.
